News articles about ‘jobs that won’t exist in the future’ often include salespeople on their at-risk lists. The thinking is that chatbots will soon be able to take over the sales process.

But according to a Gartner survey, this may not be true – at least for B2B sales. According to the survey, human interaction remains vital for buying complex services and products.  

However, there may be a role for chatbots to ‘listen in’ during a call and interact with salespeople rather than customers. They could potentially interpret and remember what customers say, deliver relevant information during a conversation, and undertake tasks such as scheduling meetings and updating CRM records.
