Sadly we said goodbye to one of life's iconic men on Sunday. David Bowie died after a long battle with cancer, leaving behind a legacy of music.
He was also an internet pioneer, a fact which many of us did not know. He set up his own internet service provider, BowieNet in 1998, which connected him to his listeners.
Ahead of the MySpace and Facebook phenomenon Bowie saw the future of the music industry. He connected himself to his fans through tech, which would have been impossible to do any other way. How many singers now have all manner of social media accounts? Nearly all. In fact if they didn't have one it would seem a little odd.
The genius of this man will be missed, but his music will live on for years to come.
As a rock legend, art and fashion pioneer, and leader in overturning gender norms, David Bowie will be remembered for many things. Put this near the top: he was a technological visionary.
